What can be done to protect supported housing providers and their residents from service closures?

The Starts at Home campaign founded by the National Housing Federation (NHF) has ran for almost 10 years.

In the face of an extremely challenging operating environment, the campaign is now calling to Save Our Supported Housing #SOSHousing, by asking the government to:

  1. Commit to a long term strategy and funding settlement for the supported housing sector
  2. Prevent further service closure through emergency funding
  3. Support the delivery of new supported homes through the Affordable Homes Program.

In April 2025, the National Housing Federation surveyed members and found that 70,000 supported homes were at risk of closure.

Since then, there have been no government announcements regarding supported housing outside of the scope of the Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act.

In the latest Supported Housing Network we will be joined by the NHF to speak about the future of supported housing.

Your speakers:

  • Matthew Baird, The Social Housing Round Table
  • Suzannah Young, Policy leader, National Housing Federation
  • Katie Miller, Research lead, National Housing Federation
