The government has confirmed the design of minimum energy efficiency standards (MEES) in the social rented sector. MEES will be integrated into Criterion D of the Decent Homes Standard, with minimum standards set for 2030 and then 2039.

These pages summarise the main decisions the government has made. Housing professionals working in sustainability, retrofit, and/or assets roles should review the final design of the policy and implement strategies to meet the new regulatory requirements.

The relevant documents can be accessed below, and the pages link to relevant documents where necessary.

For the CIH view on the decision, read the below:

The government has committed to publishing guidance for social housing professionals. We will make this guidance available via our website when it is completed.
