On 24 March 2026, the government confirmed the design of the Future Homes Standard, which will ensure new homes are energy efficient, low-carbon, and cheaper to run. 

These pages summarise the key decisions the government has made. Housing professionals should familiarise themselves with the decisions and integrate the new regulations and updated Approved Documents into their design and development work. 

We know that most housing professional providers and professionals have been preparing for these changes for some time, and the decisions made by the government are broadly as we expected.
