The Competence and Conduct Standard requires housing professionals to be qualified and educated to level 4 if they are managing a housing team or, to level 5 if they are shaping housing strategy. As a result of this forthcoming requirement, many more professionals are thinking about studying and over the next few years, a huge number of learners are expected to begin their own level 4 or 5 housing qualification.
As the awarding organisation for the sector, The Chartered Institute of Housing has created a range of qualifications to meet this demand, and learners will study for their CIH qualifications via our network of over 30 approved study centres. Work completed by all learners will need to be assessed by qualified assessors at all stages of their qualification, which presents a big opportunity for professionally qualified assessors. However, there are not enough qualified housing assessors to meet the expected demand which poses a huge opportunity for experienced housing professionals like you to train to become assessors on a full-time or part-time basis.
Assessors in education are the people who review and assess learners assignments to check they meet the required academic criteria and housing knowledge to pass the specific qualification.
This type of assessment work can usually be completed at any time of day, so you could work as an assessor in the evening or at weekends, to fit around your other work commitments. Many employers view assessment work as CPD opportunities and a way to engage with the sector. Or, if you are at the later stages of your career and are looking to give back to the sector and work flexibly, assessment work might fit with your career aspirations.
Experience in the housing sector is the most important requirement for becoming an assessor. You will need to complete an assessor training course to work in this field of work, some of our approved study centres offer suitable training courses.
Many of our approved study centres, have developed assessor training courses to help you gain the qualification you’ll need to work as an assessor. Visit their websites below, to view the individual courses and find out more.
