Our volunteer groups are made up of a diverse mix of CIH members from a broad range of backgrounds, experiences and skillsets. We are so grateful to each and every one of you for the time and energy that you put into supporting us and each other.
Turnover in volunteer groups
It’s important to ensure that firstly, we aren’t asking too much from our volunteers and the time that they give us, and secondly, that we can consistently offer other members opportunities to be involved. This makes sure that we’re bringing new skills and thinking to our volunteer groups, as well as bringing new connections from the sector into these groups.
Some of our volunteer groups have a set length of term for volunteers and these will be set out in your volunteer group’s Terms of Reference. These can be found in your group’s Volunteer Pack.
Other ways to get involved
We hope that all our volunteers who move on from their volunteer group will still want to be involved with CIH, and if that’s you, then you’ll be pleased to know that there are many ways that you can do this.

Succession through membership
In addition to the myriad ways there are to be more actively involved with CIH, volunteers can also consider membership progression to engage more with CIH.
Volunteering offers a great foundation on which to base your Chartered or Fellowship applications. Chartered membership is a wonderful way to recognise that you are making meaningful contributions to the sector.
As a Fellow, those contributions go even further. CIH Fellowship is a tangible way of showing your support for the industry and adds to your credibility and ability to influence within the sector. You can use your Fellow status to mentor up-and-coming leaders, ensuring the future of housing is bright. Fellowship also makes you eligible to apply for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) professionally qualified person card.
