Call for evidence on short term lets - developing a tourist accommodation registration scheme in England

The Government has opened a consultation exercise on short term and holiday letting in recognition of the exponential growth of this sector over recent years. Helping to broaden their knowledge in this area, government want to learn more about the benefits and challenges that have come with this expansion, including negative impacts on housing supply and local communities in England and across the country.

Evidence submitted will help government determine whether there are options that should be pursued through consultation for registration and licensing schemes. They are also keen to consider alternatives to registration and licensing schemes including non-regulatory alternatives.

Consultation closes on 21 September 2022 and the Government intends to publish a summary of responses later this year. You can find out more about the consultation and submit your evidence directly via the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport website

CIH will be preparing a consultation response and we would welcome members inputs to this. Please email Hannah Keilloh to share your experiences and views on this important topic.
