CIH launches recruitment drive for new committee members

CIH is on the lookout for new members to join two of its governing board sub-committees.

We are seeking to recruit to our audit and risk committee and governance, ethics, remuneration and nominations committee.

Both committees form part of the governance structure, which oversees CIH’s management and leadership. This includes setting and driving the strategic direction of the organisation, mapping out priorities, ensuring good performance and managing risk, accountability, viability and sustainability.

The ideal candidates will support the governing board and trustees in overseeing the completion of key business objectives. Both committees comprise trustees from the governing board and independent members.

The audit and risk committee considers matters of risk, accountability, compliance and the effectiveness of CIH delivery.

For this role, CIH welcomes applications from individuals who can demonstrate:

  • A clear understanding of audit and risk principles
  • Expertise and experience of one or more specific disciplines achieved in a challenging environment — e.g. finance, audit, compliance and quality assurance
  • Senior level experience in the private, public or not-for profit sectors.

The governance, ethics, remuneration and nominations committee supports matters of legal ethical and functional responsibility and the effectiveness of CIH delivery.

CIH welcomes applications for this committee from individuals with the following skills:

  • A clear understanding of governance, ethics and HR practice
  • Expertise and experience of one or more specific disciplines achieved in a challenging environment — e.g. HR, governance and policy and practice
  • Senior level experience in the private, public or not-for profit sectors.

CIH is seeking well-qualified individuals who, as an independent member of either committee, can support CIH and both of its committee chairs.

The organisation particularly welcomes applicants for both committees who have committee experience in human resources and finance.

Sue Leppington, director of finance, commercial and corporate services at CIH, said: “The purpose of the Chartered Institute of Housing is simple. We want to provide everyone involved in housing with the skills, support and knowledge they need to be the best they can. We also want to shape housing and community agendas.

“To achieve these things, we want to ensure that CIH is an accountable, strategic, modern, inclusive and dynamic organisation that is not only fit for purpose but also is prepared to face future challenges. The Audit and Risk and Governance, Ethics, Remuneration and Nominations committees are an important part of this, helping us to deliver on our key business objectives.

“If you are an effective decision maker and passionate about professionalism and are committed to excellent governance and the role housing can play in the future of our communities, then we want to hear from you.”

Applications are to be summitted via the CIH governance team  with the closing date for the receipt of applications set for Friday 31 July. Following a shortlisting process, interviews will be held from 10 August to 11 August.

Appointments will be made on the basis of skills and experience, with a recruitment panel making recommendations to the governing board. The governing board delegates authority to both sub-committees.

The position is unpaid, but reasonable expenses will be paid in accordance with CIH policy. Committee members are expected to contribute to the promotion and implementation of CIH’s equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) policy.
