At least 55 people have been killed in a huge fire engulfing a high-rise public housing complex in Hong Kong, with hundreds of people still unaccounted for, according to news reports.

Responding to the tragedy, CIH chief executive Gavin Smart said: "We are deeply saddened by the devastating fire in Hong Kong. Our thoughts are with everyone affected — those who have lost loved ones, those who have been injured or displaced, and the emergency services and housing professionals responding in incredibly challenging circumstances.

"At this tragic moment, we hold the communities and all those supporting them in our thoughts."
