CIH Scotland has appointed four new experienced housing professionals to its board, as two long-serving members step down.
Joining the board are Ruth Robin, unit head (transformational change) at Healthcare Improvement Scotland; Laura Harris, housing need strategy manager at West Lothian Council; Lorna Wilson, chief executive of Barrhead Housing Association; and Louise Butchart, head of housing, construction and communities at Dundee City Council.
Meanwhile, current CIH Scotland board chair Gavin Smith, service manager (housing access) at Fife Council, will be stepping down as a board member after this week’s AGM, having reached the end of his tenure. Also stepping down will be Donna Bogdanovic, head of housing and strategy development at Scottish Borders Council, who has also served for six years.
Commenting on the new appointees, incoming CIH Scotland board chair Kerry Clayton said: “We are delighted to welcome Louise, Lorna, Laura and Ruth to the CIH Scotland board. Each of them brings their own unique insight and expertise from across the housing system, all of which will be invaluable as we navigate the challenges and opportunities over the next few years.
“We know our members want CIH Scotland to provide the leadership that both helps Scotland move out of the housing emergency and ensures that housing is at the centre of our political decision making. I know each of them will help us deliver that change.”
She added: “I also want to say a big thank you to Donna and Gavin as they leave the board after six years. Both of their contributions have been significant, particularly Gavin, who is leaving after a period as vice chair and then chair of the CIH Scotland. The whole board, staff team and I am sure wider membership wish them well as they step down.”
Commenting on her appointment to the board, Ruth Robin said: “My passion for housing began over 20 years ago when I undertook my first CIH qualification in 2005 and shaped every step of my career since. I've seen first-hand how safe, secure, and affordable housing can transform lives and strengthen communities.
“I'm honoured to join CIH Scotland board and look forward to contributing to our shared mission of promoting excellence, equity and innovation across the housing profession."
Laura Harris said: “I am honoured to be joining the CIH Scotland board. After more than 25 years working in housing and homelessness services, I am excited give back to the profession and use my knowledge and experience to support the fantastic work of CIH Scotland.
“I believe that safe, affordable homes are fundamental to people’s health, education, employment and overall wellbeing, and I’m looking forward to working with the board and wider team to help tackle the significant housing challenges we are facing in Scotland.”
Lorna Wilson said: “I’m immensely proud to join the board. I believe that staying curious is one of the most powerful things we can do — learning is for everyone and never stops. I’m excited to collaborate with others who care deeply about the future of our profession. It’s a real privilege to be part of something that’s shaping not just what we do, but how we do it.”
Louise Butchart said: "I’m honoured to join the CIH board and contribute to shaping the future of housing across the Scotland.
