In tribute to Stuart Palmer

We were sorry to hear of the passing of Stuart Palmer.

A dedicated housing professional and long standing CIH member, Stuart was a former chair of the CIH South West group, and a familiar face in housing circles across the South West of England. Stuart’s career was mainly in local authority, including overseeing the stock transfers in North Somerset and Plymouth.

Paul Smith, CIH governing board member and chief exec of Elim paid tribute to Stuart, saying: "Stuart was passionate about housing and providing excellent services to customers. He was highly respected and well liked by everyone who had the pleasure to work with him. I first met Stuart in the early 1990s when he was the enabling officer at Mendip District Council pioneering a large supported housing programme in a small rural district.

“More recently Stuart worked tirelessly on Elim’s Board providing wise counsel and constructive challenge with good humour and empathy for customers. His passing creates a huge hole in the south west housing scene as well as for his wife, children and grandchildren.”

Sarah Dunkerley, CIH's director of membership and professional services added: “Stuart was a valued member of CIH for many years, and his knowledge, experience and commitment to the housing sector will be sorely missed.

“On behalf of my colleagues, past and present, at CIH – and especially colleagues in the South West – I’d like to express our sincere condolences to Stuart’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.”
