This briefing provides a summary of the most significant aspects for CIH members of DLUHC’s planning consultation, which runs until 2 March 2023.

The consultation seeks views on the proposed approach to updating the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and provides wider consultation opportunities around matters such as the potential scope of future NPPF consultation, new National Development Management Policies and other policies and legislation that would be enabled by Royal Assent of the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill.

Exceptions to longer ‘notice to quit’ periods in Northern Ireland

This CIH research report for the Department for Communities in Northern Ireland (NI) summarises:

  • What existing evidence from outside Northern Ireland tells us about exceptions to the notice periods that private landlords must provide to tenants to terminate a tenancy
  • Views from landlords and tenants in NI, their representative groups and the district councils on exceptions, and views of the general public on termination for anti-social behaviour specifically
  • Our proposals on exceptions for private landlords in NI, considering human rights and equality laws and the implications for both tenants and landlords including more vulnerable groups.
