Exploring CIH events: What's coming up in the autumn

Autumn can be a busy time, but don’t let that stop you from continuing to learn and grow as a housing professional. Most of our webinars are only one hour long so you can fit them into your busy work schedule. Although we’re leading up to the second half of the year, there’s still time to achieve your professional goals before 2027.   

CIH membership is a crucial part of finding success as a housing professional and our community of individuals and organisations are always learning from each other.  

If you’re looking for inspiration, we’ve got events that cover success stories and strategies that you can implement in your own organisation. Complex topics will be broken down by industry experts, giving you the confidence to reach your professional goals. Attendance is free with your CIH membership. 

Your development as a housing professional 

The Housing Community Summit, our flagship event with the National Housing Federation, is returning on 8-9 of September. Your CIH membership gets you a free Community Access Pass, or you can pay for a Full Summit Pass to access exclusive content tailored for housing sector leaders. With a range of agenda streams hosting expert speakers, as well as invaluable networking opportunities, this in-person conference in Liverpool is one you don’t want to miss. 

Our Bringing your whole self to work webinar on 23 September will explore how to promote diversity in the workplace, and how to support your colleagues in being their authentic selves. Lifting each other up makes the housing sector a better place, and we’ll give you the practical steps to implement this in your organisation. 

We published the annual UK Housing Review earlier this year, sharing valuable insights into the differences between the Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish and English housing sectors, and how we can learn from one another. Our UK Housing Review – Autumn Briefing 2026 will cover the current housing sector trends, and how you can deal with them. 

Finally, our monthly webinar series: Beyond the Certificate: What CIH membership really gives you offers the chance to catch up with Bethany Lenton, our retention officer, to discuss all things CIH membership. Whether you’ve been a member for a while but feel you aren’t making the most of it, you’re a new CIH member wanting to learn more, or you’re a housing professional on the fence about joining—come along to hear what we’re all about! 

Go above and beyond to support tenants 

On 2 September, we’ll be exploring the delivery of Section 106 and how you can get involved. The webinar Making section 106 affordable housing delivery work will lay out guidance on how we can engage and positively contribute to the building of desperately needed affordable homes in England. 

Just the next day, our webinar Understand MARAC: Strengthening multi-agency approaches to domestic abuse, will break down another important topic for housing sector professionals. We know that tenant safety is paramount—we’ve brought together the experts to discuss the best ways to tackle domestic abuse. 

We’re proud to have Trish Harrington-Dicks, the chair of CIH’s Professional Standards Committee speaking in the webinar: Why we need reflective practice in housing. It’s important to learn from the past to create a better future for tenants, so join us to learn more about the different methods of reflection and how to implement them into your day job. 

Preparing for the future 

There’s always incoming regulations and policies to deal with as a housing professional, and our Building Better Boards series will help you prepare for the future as a board member or management level professional. 

Building Better Boards – What do boards need to know about the risks of climate change? will support you in getting ahead of climate change risk. Starting conversations in your organisation now will jumpstart the process of properly preparing for an uncertain future.  

Building Better Boards: The Competence and Conduct Standard – England readiness, UK wide learning on 30 September will delve into the details you need to get right in time for the new regulations this October. The date’s fast approaching, so make sure you’re prepared. 

Celebrate the housing sector 

It’s no secret that housing professionals are a hard-working bunch. The Scotland Housing Awards and the Welsh Housing Awards both take place this Autumn, designed to showcase the amazing work carried out by our sector. It’s a wonderful way to learn from others and to celebrate your colleagues. If you know someone who always goes the extra mile, consider nominating them—you never know what good may come of it!
